Who are the Moderators of DMB? How do I become one?
Moderators are selected star members who have been active on the board for quite a while. They have the power to manage the selected forums- they can close, top, move and delete threads in the forums they moderate. Each forum's moderator(s) is/are listed under that forum's description. They get individual forum post reports. You can talk to them if you have a problem about the forum(s) they moderate :)

Who are Star Members? How do I become one?
Star members are members with 250 posts and have been on the board for at least 5 months. When a member has proven s/he has been a loyal member of DMB, then s/he is awarded with some extra privileges- such as more attachment space, a tag board, etc.. You must fill out an application to become a star member after you've reached minimium requirement. Before you apply, think about if you:
  • have always made meaningful posts
  • know the board rules by heart and followed them since you registered
  • have participated in board activities and will continuously to do so
  • have been friendly and helpful to other members
If you have gotten a warning, it's very unlikely you will be accepted as a star member unless you've truly shown improvements in the past months. Administrators may over turn your rights to become a star for appropriate reasons. If you get rejected, please only request again in one month. Star members will have special pages and rights around the board like being SOTW etc. You can find out more about this on the stars page. Please remember, if you violate any rules on the board, your star member status will be taken away from you immediately!

How was DMB script written?
DMB is written by dodo in php and mysql. The project has started in Feb, 2005 and is still undergoing construction. Thanks to the following sites for helping dodo out.

How do I get an image (A.K.A. avatar) under my name?
In order to get an avatar, you must have at least 100 posts and be registered on the board for more than 30 days. If you have fulfilled both requirements, make a non-animated 60x60 pixel image in GIF or JPEG format, no bigger than 15kb. Then click on edit avatar and upload it ^.^ After you upload it, your avatar should automatically show up in our avatar gallery as well.

Additionally, you may also purchase alternative avatars with DMB bucks. If you have purchased alternative avatars, the script will randomly pick one of you avatars to be displayed beside your post ^.^

If you have just uploaded a new avatar and you old one still shows up, try refreshing (press Control+F5 on your keyboard) a few times :) Sometimes, old images stay in the browers cache and loads instead of the new image.

How can I have a signature?
Any member can have a signature ^.^ Just click on edit signature to upload the images in your signature and edit the text. However, please follow a few rules. Your signature may be edited by dodo without notification if:
  • the image used in your signature does not follow board rules
  • you have used offensive language in your signature
  • the images in your signature is a broken link

How can I find out what I got wrong on the registration test?
As an unregistered member, you can not find out what you got wrong on the registration test for the obvious reasons. However, if you didn't get 100 on your registration test when you registered, you may take the registration test again. There's a link to the registration test in your cpanel. You will get a grade report once you take this one again.

What are themes and how do I make one?
DMB has multiple themes/skins you can choose from :) Once logged in, hover on "cpanel" and click on change theme to load the theme gallery. Each theme is accompanied with a small screenshot preview. After you have selected the one you like, click the theme's preview image. ^.^

If you'd like to make a theme for DMB. Please read about it here.

What is dmb buck? How do I make some?
It's DMB's own virtual money ^.^ You can earn DMB bucks while posting around the board. Please read this for more information.

What is oekaki and oekaki shortcut?
Oekaki is a drawing. Click here to learn more about oekaki.

NOT YET IMPLEMENTED & WILL BE IMPLEMENTED SOON! When you edit your profile, you can turn the option "oekaki shortcut" on or off. If you choose on, you will see a resized oekaki picture in your navigation menu when you visit the board. If you hover your mouse over the icon, you will see the drawing in its original size. If you click on the icon, you will be able to view detailed information about the drawing. If you choose off, the icon will not appear.

What is summary tooltip?
In various places on the board, you may view a summary of posts by hovering its topic link. Some members find this useful, others find it annoying. Therefore you may turn it on or off in your cpanel :)

What is auto add to favorites?
When you edit your cpanel, you can turn the option "auto add to favorites" on or off. If you choose on, whenever you post a new topic or reply to a topic, the "add the topic to your favorites" option will be checked. If you choose no, it will not be checked. This option allows you track all the topics you started and/or replied to.

What is the pixel army limit?
Members may purchase pixels to put under their username or in their post (you may set where you want it placed in your options) from our store. This option in your profile allows you to limit the number of the person's pixels shown. If you don't want to see ANY pixels under someone's username next to their post, you may set this number to 0. If you wish to see all pixels, put 255 as your number. I doubt anyone would purchase more than 255 pixels very frequently.

What are DMB's daily events?
DMB currently has two daily events, both involving DMB bucks ^.^

The Daily Auction is an event that involves bidding dmb bucks. You may read more about the event here. The default links is placed on the theme logo. In your cpanel, you have option to place the auction link anywhere you want. There are two numbers that you can set in your profile: the number of pixels you want it from top and the number pixels you want it from the left. If you wish to go back to default position, set both top and left to -1 :)

The Crown Drawing can be read about here ^.^ Everyday, a new question involving DMB and it's members will be picked and at the end of the day, the script will award different amounts of bucks to 3 random people who have answered the question correctly.

Is there a way to view topics based on when they were last updated?
Simply click on the up or new link on the upper right corner. You may also click on the exclamation mark to view only topics created after your last visit.

What are DMB Medals?
Giving out DMB medals is just another way to honor special members on the board who work hard to make this place better. You can nominate anyone but yourself by u2u dodo if you think they deserve medals. Please back up your nomination with detailed explanation. I can not keep track of everyone's progress, so please do not feel shy to nominate! Medals can only be given out by dodo and it will always come as a surprise. Any member can get one or more medals at a time. If you get a medal, you will be notified by u2u and the medal will be placed next to your post below your avatar. It will last 20 days.

here's some explanation for the various medals.
best staff medal (mods, super mods, admin)

Again if you were nominate to someone, please be sincere. Don't nominate just because they are your friends. They have to have done something that made DMB better.

What is oekaki?
CAUTION: when start or modify a oekaki drawing, ALWAYS take a screenshot before you save it via the java applet. There is always a possibility that you may lose your drawing if you don't save it manually.

Oekaki is Japanese for "scribble" or "doodle". DMB has intergrated the original oekaki java applet with its script so members may draw individually or together.

To use oekaki on DMB, you must have at least 50 posts and have been on the board for at least 20 days. But as long as you are a member, you may comment on any oekaki drawings. In fact, you earn §0.5 every time you comment on an oekaki drawing.

To draw with oekaki, first go to the oekaki section then click on My oekaki. You should see the Start a new drawing link if you are allowed to draw.

As the starter or owner of an oekaki drawing, you may define and modify properties associated with it. These properties include title, description, a list of participants and others. You may include or exclude any other members as participants at any time by modifying the drawing's properties. Remember only members with at least 50 posts and have been on the board for at least 20 days may access oekaki. If you add anyone who is not qualified to your participants list, they may not participate until they fulfill the oekaki requirements.

How to earn dmb bucks with oekaki?
Every time you make a comment on anyone's oekaki drawing, you get §0.5. To reward members who do great jobs drawing oekaki, every time your drawing is being added as a favorite by someone who is not a participant of your drawing, you will earn §2. Therefore, the more members enjoy your drawing, the more bucks you will earn.

Please note, just being on the participants list will not necessarily earn you bucks. You must have at least modified the drawing once to earn bucks. You can tell this by viewing the history log of the drawing. Only the first time a drawing is being added as a favorite will send bucks. Repeatedly adding and deleting a drawing as a favorite will not send extra bucks.

What are oekaki lock status?
Each oekaki drawing has a lock status associated with it.

Unlocked
The drawing is not locked if no one is modifying it or that the owner did not choose to permanently lock it. You may modify it if you are the owner or a participant.

Edit locked
Every time someone is modifying the drawing, it is automatically edit locked. Once the user indicates s/he is done with the modification by saving it, it will become unlocked. When a drawing is edit locked, no one else may modify it. However, to prevent a drawing being edit locked for too long in error, once a drawing is edit locked for more than 8 hours, the owner may unlock it by editing its properties. It is always a good idea to check with the member who edit locked the drawing before unlocking it so his/her modifications won't get lost.

Permanently locked
Once the drawing is at its finished stage, the owner may choose to permanently lock it. Once permanently locked, no one may modify it any more. Only oekaki administrators: dodo may unlock permanently locked drawings.

How do I moderate my own topics?
If a topic is started by you, you should be able to see some links under 'Thread Notice'. Click the links to close, move or edit the thread :)

How do I know I am posting meaningful posts?
Power posting is against DMB rules. Quality, meaningful posts should fit the following criteria:

1. They should not be something most people have already said in the forum unless you are bringing up a new point to reinforce the idea.

2. When posting replies, please make sure you edit your previous replies if you have anything to add or change immediately after you hit the submit button. Do not post two replies in a row! It's called double posting.

3. They must be something that contributes to the topic and is worth knowing about. For example, if a mod post rules in a forum, you need NOT to post things like "thanks for reminder" or something along that line. You should post if you have suggestions, questions or other more important comments about the rules. Same thing goes with posts in the suggestion or feedback forums.

4. It's easy to see someone who does or does not post meaningful posts just by look up the posts they have made. If more than 50% of the posts you made violate #3, you are probably power posting. Admins may reduce your post number and bucks accordingly as a punishment for power posting.

5. It's ok if you want to be funny or goofy for once or twice. But DO NOT treat the board as your personal chatroom. Repeated replies to yourself or dialogues among only a few members for personal jokes or just plain hyperness are not acceptable.

6. In general, show us you have put thoughts into all the posts you make. Your posts should always have distinct purposes.

Can I request people to make me a blah blah?
You may only request web related services in bucks for request forum offering appropriate amount of dmb bucks.

What's the policy on cussing?
We do not welcome profanity on this board. But if you let a cuss word slip out once in a while, we will not severely penalize you for it. Under no circumstance should profanity be used causually or excessively. Replacing curse words with asterisks may make them appear less intrusive but it still counts as cussing. Please watch your language when posting on this board.

Can I change my username?
The only way you can change your username after you have signed up is to re-register as a different username and lose your post count and DMB bucks.

Everyone recognizes you by your username. If everyone starts to change their usernames around, the board will be an awfully confusing place.

Make sure you delete your current account in cpanel before signing up a new one otherwise you are violating the board rule!

Why can't I see how many posts other users have made?
Because we've decided that the post number should be kept private. In the past, some members have made a big deal out of it and so now only mods and admins can see everyone's post number. You may see your own post number.

Can I sell or trade merchandise with real money?
Any public event that deals with real money or giving out snail address should be avoided on this board. As the owner, dodo does not want to take any responsibility if anything goes wrong with real life money transaction or personal security. To comply with coppa, any member under 13 must obtain parental permission to give out address. People who obtain addresses from others SHOULD check their ages in their profiles when applicable. You should not mail anything unless the young members have explicitly stated that they have obtained parental permission to give out their addresses. DMB is not responsible for any exchanges of any personal information. Please be very cautious when giving them out.

What happens to my account if I don't post or don't visit the board often?
If you've never posted with your account, your account will be deleted in 30 days. Otherwise if you don't visit the board for more than 60 days, your account will be deactivated. Deactivated accounts will have limited ability. For example it will not be able to receive u2u, can not receive certain bucks reward and it can not be picked as sotw. You may reactivate your account any time by logging in and correctly answer your hint question. If an account stays deactivated for more than 8 months, it will be deleted. Please do not u2u dodo for any exceptions. There will not be exceptions for anyone.
