Introduction The History of DMB: I first started DMB when I bought hosting for regretless.com on June 30th, 2000. The script used for the board was UBB. I was introduced to that script by Shampoo (the owner of now closed catcafe.net). My inital goal was merely to provide a space for my online friends to hang out. The friendliness of the board soon attracted new people. The board grew fast. With growing popularity comes greater responsibility. DMB has gone through numerous difficulties over the years. Although I try my best to make everyone happy, it's impossible to elinimate all conflicts. About 2 months after DMB was established, the owner of UBB asked me to register the cgi board script for $100. Yes, that was 3 years ago, asking $100 for a board script now would be ridiculous. They didn't grant me a single day to raise the money. I have to say my experience with UBB is one of my worst memories online. I seriously do not recommend their service. They would not even allow me to use the word "unfriendly" to describe their service on my own website. Hrm, freedom of speech? Interestingly, what seemed to be the end of DMB brought a fresh new beginning. As suggested by Sarah, I found another free and more superior cgi board script known as Ikonboard. They did not only have better script, they even had a support forum for people to discuss bugs and new features. I was unbelievably thrilled. Quickly I threw away UBB and installed Ikonboard. It worked amazingly. More importantly, I met the new administrator of DMB Lauryn through the whole experience. That was the start of DMB Ikonboard era :) When Ikonboard developing team slowly retired from the project, DMB was eagerly looking for a better script. What's when the language php and mysql become hot. DMB soon switched to the new free php & mysql based board script XMB for a faster loading time. After the developing team for XMB splitted, I sticked with Devbb whose developers are now releasing mybb. I will probably hold on my old devbb script because I learned so much from looking at its source code and hacked so much. It will be too painful to change to another script. Given time, I can basically add any new features to this script. DMB has matured a lot through its history. The Uniqueness of DMB: As you will see mentioned in many members' yearbook pages, the one thing that makes DMB unique is its many special events which bring the members closer than a lot of other boards. The most recent popular creation on DMB is "DMB BUCKS". While you posting, you can earn "bucks" and with the "bucks" you will be able to "buy" many special privileges around the board :) Another unique service of DMB is buddyland. After you met a new friend through DMB, you can show him/her off in your buddyland. Read more about DMB special events here. DMB is also unique because it requires all new members to take a registration test before they can register. This uniqueness can be either loved or hated by people. However I personally find the test extremely helpful. Although the test does include questions unique to DMB, many of them are common sense. We wish people who eventually become members on this board to be able to read and follow rules. That's one of the most important factors to keep DMB an organized place despite of its many members. To keep DMB an active place, I always delete inactive members (member who didn't visit the board for more than 2 months) and those who didn't post anything. This is to make sure everyone whose name is shown on our member list truly participates in DMB. DMB moderators, super moderators and administrators are also very dedicated in pruning old topics so the board does not look crowded.
